Civil Engineering & Construction
The civil works required for the construction of a wind energy project vary from site to site, but normally entail (but are not exclusive to) the following components:
- Temporary construction compound - measuring approximately 50m x 50m
- Wind turbine foundations (reinforced concrete)
- Areas of hardstanding adjacent to the turbine – this provides a stable base on which to lay down turbine components ready for assembly and erection, and to site the two cranes necessary to lift the tower sections, nacelle and rotor into place
- Access track construction, including onsite tracks
- Control building – measuring approximately 6m x 6m, a control building would be constructed onsite to house the electrical switchgear, metering equipment etc
