About the project

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is working with Partnerships for Renewables to develop a wind energy project at the former RAF Coltishall base, near the newly-built Bure Prison.

We are currently looking at developing a single wind turbine with a generation capacity of between two and three megawatts (MW) and a tip height of up to 130 metres (typically an 80 metre tower and three 45-50 metre blades).

There is still a lot of environmental and technical work to carry out to establish whether the Bure site is an appropriate location for a wind energy development.

If the site is found to be a suitable location we will submit a full Environmental Statement with the planning application and will keep the local community informed throughout the development process.

Latest developments

The project development is currently on hold.

With the Master Plan for the rest of the Bure site now finalised, the site has been put on sale. We are awaiting the outcome of the land sale to ensure that we only proceed with the project if it is compatible with the future use of the site.
