About our Work

The Coal Authority is working with Partnerships for Renewables to investigate the potential for the delivery of renewable energy developments on its land. The work is currently concentrating on finding Coal Authority sites with the potential to host commercial-scale wind turbines.

The work is at an early stage and there is much more detailed technical work to be done before we have a clear idea where the best Coal Authority sites are located.

If results of study work show that renewable energy projects are feasible on any particular site, and it is decided to take the site through to development, Partnerships for Renewables and the Coal Authority will ensure that the local community is central to the development process.
