Doncaster and Goole

British Waterways is working with Partnerships for Renewables to look into the feasibility of developing renewable energy projects on its land at three sites in the Doncaster and Goole area.

Timeline

It can take more than three years to design, consent and construct even the simplest commercial scale wind turbine. A typical project timeline is shown below.

Project status

Partnerships for Renewables and British Waterways are currently at the early stages of the project development phase (indicated by the red arrow on the diagram below). There is a need to carry out many relevant environmental and technical studies and, while it is possible that positive results could see a planning application submitted in 2010, it is likely that more than 12 months of detailed assessment work will be required to establish whether these sites are actually suitable.

Throughout the development process we constantly gather information to feed into the layout and design of a project. If at any stage it becomes apparent that a site is not suitable for development, we will stop work on the site.
