About the Project

The Forthbank amenity site, located to the south east of Alloa, is owned by Clackmannanshire Council and consists of an old landfill site and local recycling services. The council is working with Partnerships for Renewables to explore the feasibility of generating renewable energy on the Forthbank site.

The potential to generate electricity by harnessing the landfill gas and local wind resource is currently being explored.

The work carried out so far has concentrated on harnessing the wind resource and suggests that the site could potentially accommodate up to four wind turbines with a generation capacity of between two and three megawatts (MW) each and a tip height of up to 125 metres.

There is still a lot of environmental work to carry out to ensure that the Forthbank site is an appropriate location for wind turbines and landfill gas generation. If the site is found to be a suitable location to develop these renewable technologies we will submit a full Environmental Impact Assessment with the planning application and will keep the local community informed throughout the development process.

The site boundary can be seen on the map below outlined in red.
