Oxford City Council

Oxford City Council is committed to playing its part in tackling climate change. It works alongside local businesses and organisations, schools and colleges, communities and individuals to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the City. Towards this end, Oxford City Council is implementing a Climate Change Action Plan with the following aims:

  • Reduce Council CO2 emissions by 25% by 2010 (on a 2005 baseline) - and deliver a minimum 3% year on year reduction into the longer term (via the Oxford City Council Carbon Management Programme);
  • Raise awareness and understanding of climate change in Oxford;
  • Improve energy efficiency standards of new developments;
  • Increase the uptake of low carbon systems among businesses and residents; and
  • Help transform Oxford into a sustainable city.

Investigating the potential for renewable energy on its own land is an important part of delivering this ambitious plan.

Oxford City Council recently won a national environment award for its sustainable living guide: Oxford is My World: Your Guide to Saving the Planet.
