Wind energy community surgery to be held in Horspath
Published: 13/10/2010
A community drop-in surgery will be held next Wednesday (20 October) as part of the ongoing consultation process for proposed wind energy development on Oxford City Council land at Oxford Road, Horspath. Renewable energy developer Partnerships for Renewables, the Council’s partner for the wind energy investigations, is keen to continue to share plans for the proposed single turbine site. The surgery is part of a series of public consultation events held since the project was announced in February this year. “Rather than to reveal any new project milestones, the purpose of the surgeries is to provide a ‘drop in’ facility for local communities and anyone with any questions, feedback or suggestions to come along and talk to the project team. We will be able to provide information on our investigations at the site so far and answer any queries on wind energy in general,” explains Tony Duffin, Regional Manager at Partnerships for Renewables. “The drop-in surgery is part of our continuing consultation programme and we will be holding these regularly throughout the development process. We are still at relatively early stages of investigating the site and Oxford City Council and Partnerships for Renewables are committed to having an ongoing dialogue with the local community. We look forward to hearing more comments on the plans.” Next steps for the project will be to submit a planning application to Oxford City Council for a temporary monitoring mast to measure wind data – this is likely to be submitted before the end of the year. The surgery is being held in the Morgan Room at Horspath Village Hall, Horspath, OX33 1RT on Wednesday 20 October from 2pm to 6.30pm. Anyone wishing to find out more about the project at any time can visit the project website at www.pfr.co.uk/horspath or email: pfr@communityrelations.co.uk or call 0800 731 7395. -Ends- Editor’s notes: - Oxford City Council is the first council in England and Wales to commit to exploring the potential for commercial scale wind energy on its land. The Council has formed a partnership with PfR, which has surveyed hundreds of possible sites for wind turbines around Oxford, narrowing it down to two after various investigations. The second site at Cutteslowe Park has now been put on hold following issues with aviation and radar.
- Partnerships for Renewables was set up by the Carbon Trust in 2006 to work in partnership with the public sector to develop, construct and operate renewable energy projects. By providing a one stop shop for the development of renewable energy projects, Partnerships for Renewables provide a way for Public Sector Bodies to access the economic and environmental benefits associated with renewable energy and contribute towards the fight against climate change without diverting public sector resources away from frontline services.
