Benefits
Public sector benefits
The Partnerships for Renewables package has been designed specifically for the public sector. It has been tailored to meet public procurement guidelines and to demonstrate best-value throughout the development process.
Working with Partnerships for Renewables is the simplest and lowest risk way for public sector bodies to access the renewable energy potential of their land and to harness the economic and environmental benefits associated with renewable energy development.
The Partnerships for Renewables package is:
- Integrated: Partnerships for Renewables manages all aspects of the development, from screening sites and conducting feasibility studies to construction and operation.
- Low risk: Public sector partners do not need to risk valuable resources on developing potential sites as Partnerships for Renewables covers all project costs associated with the development, from feasibility studies and Environmental Impact Assessments through to planning applications and construction.
- Responsible: Partnerships for Renewables covers all development costs and wants to deliver well-sited and well-designed projects. Only those sites believed to be environmentally-appropriate for development are pursued.
- Thorough: Every project involves detailed studies into all of the relevant environmental and technical issues surrounding it.
- Committed: Partnerships for Renewables offers public sector bodies a long-term partnership throughout the whole life of a project to retain consistency and accountability.
- Open and honest: Partnerships for Renewables recognises that its partners have ongoing relationships with many of the communities neighbouring potential developments and works openly and proactively throughout the development process to ensure that the local community is central to the development process.
- Technology-neutral: Partnerships for Renewables continually reviews the progress of the renewable energy market to identify technologies which offer the best economic and environmental benefits required by its public sector partners. Partnerships for Renewables is currently working on commercial-scale onshore wind developments and small-scale hydro projects.
Community benefits
We engage with the local community at all stages of a project to ensure we understand and address their concerns.
To support this, every PfR project benefits from:
- Open and inclusive consultation: By using a variety of methods including public exhibitions, mail drops, e-newsletters, surgeries, local media and a project-specific website we keep an open dialogue with the local community throughout the development process. The community can even become proactively involved in the development process, for example, helping with the traffic and construction management plan or with planning conditions.
- Community benefit package: We offer a market-leading community benefit package which consists of a community fund that receives an annual payment (in direct proportion to the installed capacity) and is administered by representatives of the local community. A separate consultation takes place to discuss how the community benefit package will be administered and organised.
