STEPHEN AINGER
, Chief Executive
Stephen has extensive experience of the energy sector and not for profit financial services. After graduating in Physics from Bath University with a First Class Honours degree Stephen joined BP where he worked in the UK and overseas for 24 years in a variety of commercial and operational roles. These included Business Unit leader in the Middle East and leading BP Exploration and Production Strategy and Planning in 1993/4.
He joined the BG Group in 1999 where he was a main Board Director of Transco and latterly Group Director of Strategy and Business Development for the Lattice Group Plc after the company was de-merged from BG.
He left Lattice in 2002 to take up the position of CEO of the Charities Aid Foundation, one of the principal providers of financial services to UK charities and donors in the UK and overseas. He joined PfR in April 2007.
ANDREW MACDONALD, Commercial Director 
Andrew has over 15 years of experience in the renewables industry. After working for Price Waterhouse, Andrew joined the biomass developer Fibrowatt, a start-up company which developed, constructed and operated 60MW of biomass projects in the UK. He then moved to National Wind Power (now Npower Renewables) as a member of its management team and as a director of Concert Energy Limited, a JV consolidation business. Andrew was on the management team of Npower’s Industrial and Commercial (I&C) supply business and became Head of Renewables. In this latter role, Andrew was seconded to DECC’s Sustainable Energy Policy (SEP) Unit as an adviser during the 2006 Energy Review.
Andrew joined PfR as one of the founding members of the senior management team in 2007.
FRANK BINNS, Business Development Director
Renewables have occupied the last twelve years of Frank’s 35 years in the power industry. Before his switch to renewables, Frank worked as a Business Development Manager at British Energy. After leaving British Energy he was the Managing Director of Clarke Generation, focusing on CHP, landfill gas, coal mine methane and onshore wind. He then founded and ran LBEnergy, a power generation consultancy specialising in renewable energy. As a consultant to the Carbon Trust, he was instrumental in setting up PfR in 2007.
Frank read physics at Lancaster University and is a Member of the Institute of Physics and a Chartered Physicist.
SIMON VINCE, Director of Construction and Operations
Simon has over 11 years’ experience in the wind industry. Prior to PfR, he worked for Ecotricity as Head of Projects and Operations, where he successfully constructed and operated all aspects (including maintenance and service) of over 50 turbines (totaling 56 MW) over 17 wind energy sites throughout the UK. He was also responsible for Health and Safety during the construction and operational phases and is a member of the Renewables UK Wind Turbine Safety Rules Steering Group.
Before his switch to wind energy, Simon spent 15 years in a number of roles in the service sector of the oil and gas industry, working for BP, Shell and Amoco in well services and completion engineering and design. A specialist team led by Simon jointly won the BP Worldwide Technology Award for achieving a world-first in leading well completion design and control.
YAU HOOI, Head of Finance
Yau is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 10 years post qualified experience in audit, financial and management reporting, transaction services, taxation, financial management and control. He has held managerial positions at BGC Partners, Deloitte, Urbanest, Nice Group and BDO.
He graduated from Oxford University in 1998, where he read Physics.
MARCUS BEDDOE, Head of Planning 
Marcus has 15 years’ experience in planning and energy infrastructure, specialising in onshore wind. Previously Head of Planning at Ecotricity, he has helped to deliver some thirteen consented onshore wind projects in the UK with a total combined generating capacity of 66MW.
Having worked as a planning officer in various local planning authorities and at the national level at the Local Government Association, Marcus has a sound understanding of the planning system and Environmental Impact Assessment practice and legislation.
Marcus is a Charted Town Planner, with a post grad MPhil from Cambridge and a MA in Town Planning from the University of Westminster.
JOHN MILLS, Head of Communications and Marketing
Before joining the PfR team in 2011, John spent 14 years in public affairs consultancy, assisting a wide range of clients in the property development and infrastructure sectors. Latterly, he served for 8 years as a director of one of the UK’s largest independent consultancy firms. For several years, he also served on the management committee of the industry regulatory body, the Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC).
John began his career in policy and constituent support roles, for elected politicians in both Westminster and California.
He is a Member of the CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations), holds a BA in History from Lancaster University and an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
JERRY STURMAN, Regional Manager
Jerry has more than 12 years’ experience in the wind power industry, having earlier worked in project development for East Midlands Electricity (now part of E.On), International Power and Force 9 Energy. He spent his early career in the coal industry firstly as a technical specialist and later in a range of management roles before joining the renewable energy industry in 1994 with East Midlands Electricity where he developed projects across a range of technologies. He joined PfR in 2008.
Jerry holds an MBA from the Nott
ingham Business School and is a member of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He is a Chartered Engineer.
JO FLEMING, Regional Manager
Jo is responsible for development of the Environment Agency’s portfolio and PfR’s projects in the South and East of England. He has 20 years’ experience in the energy sector, covering oil and utilities. As a Manager for Arthur D. Little he consulted on technology strategy, market evaluation and undertaking due diligence for energy companies.
Jo first worked in renewables at Enron Europe in 2001 and subsequently served as a director for Zelen Ventures developing a range of biomass projects, specialising in fuel supply contracts. He was Head of Business Development at Drax working on renewable projects before joining PfR in 2007.
He has a first degree in Earth Sciences, a PhD in Petroleum Geology and an MBA.
TONY DUFFIN, Regional Manager
Tony is responsible for developing opportunities for public sector partnerships focusing on the South West of England and Wales. A former Director of Engineering Strategy for the Energy Networks Association, Tony also brings grid experience to PfR. Prior to that, Tony worked in the Carbon Trust’s Low Carbon Innovation Programme and conceived the idea of acceleration projects covering technologies including wave and tidal power, smart metering, micro-chp and biomass heat; each project designed to bring worthwhile technologies closer to market. As Business Development Manager at AEAT’s Energy Consultancy Group, Tony led a team which provided banks’ engineer support to investors in over 1000MW of wind farms.
Tony has 20 years’ experience in project and technology development in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector, an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Fellow of the Institution for Mechanical Engineers.
ALAN MATHEWSON, Regional Manager
Alan is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with an MBA in Strategic Management and has over 20 years’ experience in the energy sector. He is a former associate director of Entec, where he headed the wind energy consultancy business, helping take projects through development to consent and construction. As Commercial Manager for British Energy, he helped develop BE’s renewables strategy and was responsible for leading the environmental due diligence on acquisition targets including the Eggborough Power Station purchase. Alan also has experience of deep water offshore wind farms having provided specialist advice to both Government (DTi) and private sector clients (Talisman Beatrice Wind Farm).
Alan is currently leading PfRs development of sites in the Forestry Commissions National Forest Estate in the Scottish Lowlands and Borders Districts.
