Wind Power

Wind power involves harnessing the energy of moving air (wind), either on- or offshore. The wind is created by the energy of the Sun causing variations in the temperature of air, which affects its density, forcing it to move.

Although winds are variable it is considered that wind power will be the major contributor to renewable energy in the UK in the next decade.

Wind power is already one of the most developed renewable technologies and, particularly onshore, is one of the cheapest per unit of electricity produced.

The UK is especially suited to harnessing wind power with strong, fairly consistent winds and relatively shallow waters, giving it the largest wind energy resource in Europe, if not the world.
