Second public exhibition for Haverigg Prison Wind Energy Project to be held this Thursday

Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) has announced that it will be holding the second public exhibition for the HMP Haverigg wind energy project on Thursday 24th June in Haverigg. The exhibition will be open from 2pm – 8pm and will be held at the Haverigg Working Men’s Club (Main St, Haverigg). The project is in the final stages of development and PfR will be putting together the environmental impact assessment work over the summer months. The proposed site is expected to host five 2.3 megawatt (MW) wind turbines, which would be capable of generating enough green electricity to meet the annual electricity requirements of 6,600 UK households. PfR has been in consultation with local residents since last autumn, when it held the first public exhibition, and has been hosting a series of community surgeries during 2010. Jerry Sturman, Regional Manager at Partnerships for Renewables, said: “The aim of this public exhibition is to show local residents what progress has been made with the project, as well as the incoming results of our environmental work. “We will also have some visual representations of the five turbines at the exhibition, so we would encourage residents to come along and have a look for themselves. Jerry Sturman added: “In April we submitted a planning application for a wind monitoring mast. Natural England, the statutory consultee on ecology and bird issues, has subsequently requested additional data and analysis on the site, so we will be withdrawing this application and re-submitting it with the additional data in June. “We are making very good progress with the site and we expect to be able to submit a planning application this autumn. We will have another public exhibition upon submission outlining the final design of the project but will carry on with community surgeries in the meantime.”
