Daventry District Council Grant Planning Permission for Temporary Wind Monitoring Mast Near Boddington Reservoir
Published: 04/05/2010
Daventry District Council has granted planning permission for Partnerships for Renewables’ planning application to construct a temporary wind monitoring mast, on British Waterways land to the north of Boddington Reservoir, between the villages of Boddington and Byfield.
The temporary wind monitoring mast will be erected at some point in the coming weeks and will provide valuable on-site wind data to supplement information already gathered from the met office. By gaining a deeper understanding of the local wind regime Partnerships for Renewables will be able to select the optimum turbine for the site from the range available on the market and accurately predict the amount of energy likely to be generated by the development.
Permission to erect the 70m mast was granted with the condition that it is fitted with aviation lights to safeguard against any risk to aircraft present in the area.
Tony Duffin, from Partnerships for Renewables, said: “We are committed to designing the best possible wind development for the site and this requires us to develop a really detailed understanding of the local environment. The council’s decision, to grant planning permission for the temporary wind monitoring mast, is very welcome and means that we can now move forward with all of the tools necessary to gain a thorough understanding of site conditions and ensure that any future planning application is appropriate for the location.
“It is now important that we finalise the details of the other environmental work required, including bird and ecological studies. This process started when we published our ‘scoping report’, a document outlining the methodology we plan to adopt for each subject area, to gain feedback from bodies like Natural England and Daventry District Council.
“We also hope to keep discussing this and other information with the local community at our ongoing community ‘drop-in’ surgeries in Byfield Village Hall – the next drop-in session is taking place on the 18th of May from 10am to 7pm.
“Anyone wishing to ask questions or find out more about our work, including information on the recently published ‘scoping report’ and dates for future public events, should visit the project website at www.pfr.co.uk/boddington, or call the project team on 0800 731 7395.”
