About Us

Partnerships for Renewables is an experienced team of renewables experts that works exclusively with public sector bodies (PSBs) to develop and manage renewable energy projects across the UK.

Why public sector bodies?
Public sector bodies own around 10% of the land in the UK including tens of thousands of buildings and over one million hectares of land.

Despite this, only a very small percentage is currently being used to provide our homes and businesses with a cleaner, greener form of energy.

In fact less than 0.1% of the total amount of green energy which the UK is capable of producing comes from renewable energy projects on public sector land.

Encouraged by the Government, many organisations are already beginning to investigate how they can utilise their resources to generate renewable energy.

Where does PfR come in?
Partnerships for Renewables was set up by Carbon Trust Enterprises in 2006 after it spotted the untapped potential for renewable energy projects on public sector land.

We’re here, as an independent organisation, to help public sector bodies put their underused land to better use by working with them to plan, develop, construct and operate wind and other renewable energy projects.

Making a difference
We’re aiming to deliver 500 megawatts of clean, green electricity, over the next 5 – 8 years, on public sector land.

500 megawatts of renewable energy is enough to serve the houses of Exeter, Oxford, Norwich and Newcastle combined – that’s equivalent to more than 250,000 houses at zero carbon cost to the environment.
