Each PfR project begins with identifying sites that are right for development. Because we cover all of the development costs ourselves and want to deliver well sited and well designed projects, we take great care screening potential sites and only develop the sites we believe to be appropriate for renewable energy development.
Initial screening process
As public sector bodies can nominate any number of potential sites for development, the initial screening process relies on office-based assessments. This process looks into issues such as the proximity of housing and environmentally-designated areas and wind speed. Many sites are found to be inappropriate for development at this stage.
Feasibility studies
Sites that pass through the initial screening process are subjected to feasibility studies. These studies include initial assessments on commercial, environmental and construction feasibility.
Project Development
Successful sites enter the project development phase. It is at this stage that detailed assessment of the environment begins, including studies on site-specific wildlife and ecology. If issues are uncovered at this stage which make the site inappropriate for development is not pursued any further. However, if the results remain positive then a planning application is submitted.
Consultation
The local community is central to our development process and we are committed to an open and honest consultation process. By using a variety of methods including public exhibitions, mail drops, local media and our website we keep an open dialogue with the local community throughout the development process.
