Our Status

Partnerships for Renewables Ltd is a for-profit private Limited Company, registered in England and Wales (number 05772184). Our registered office is at the offices of Carbon Trust Enterprises on the 8th Floor, 3 Clement’s Inn, London, WC2A 2AZ, although we work out of shared office space in London and Cheltenham.

Our Heritage

Partnerships for Renewables is the brainchild of Carbon Trust Enterprises Ltd (CTEL), a subsidiary of Carbon Trust.

Briefly put, CTEL helps the Carbon Trust “make the business case for climate change” by developing carbon-reducing businesses in areas of market failure, i.e. where a functioning market is not - or not yet - happening. This was the case when Partnerships for Renewables was established, with a requirement among public sector bodies for on-site renewables not resulting in project development activity.

Partnerships for Renewables was the third business to be set up by CTEL. To find out more about other Carbon Trust Enterprise businesses visit CTEL's website.

Our Ownership and Financing

The Carbon Trust, through Carbon Trust Enterprises, and HSBC are now both major shareholders in PfR. HSBC Environmental Infrastructure Fund has committed up to £18 million to acquire 49% of PfR and provide development funding, as well as making a £30 million revolving construction capital facility available to fund an estimated £100 million of equity required to build out renewable energy projects.
