Rushy Mead Wind Energy Application to be Submitted in October
Published: 07/10/2010
Partnerships for Renewables has confirmed that it will be submitting a planning application for a wind energy development on University of Reading land at the Rushy Mead site, south of the M4 between junctions 10 and 11, in October. The application will be for four wind turbines with an expected combined capacity of 10 megawatts, generating an amount of electricity equivalent to that required for more than 4,000 average households. Tony Duffin, Regional Manager at Partnerships for Renewables, said: “The planning submission will include an Environmental Statement, which contains an in depth assessment of a wide range of environmental issues to ensure that the proposal has been appropriately designed and located. We would encourage anyone with an interest in any particular area of our work, to have a look at these studies. The results of the work carried out show that the site is an appropriate location for wind turbines. “We have been investigating the site for more than two years and have received valuable feedback from the local community throughout this period via public exhibitions and regular community surgeries. We have worked hard to incorporate the feedback into our plans and will be holding public exhibitions later this month so that members of the community can come along and discuss the details of the application with the project team.” "If anyone is unable to attend the public exhibitions but have queries or comments they can contact us by phone 0800 731 7395 or email – pfr@communityrelations.co.uk.” Professor Gordon Marshall, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Reading, said: “PfR have taken the time needed to test the suitability of the site and to consult with the local community and interest groups. If the application is successful, the Rushy Mead wind energy project will chime well with our renowned research into sustainability and climate change issues, make good use of currently under-utilised land and generate considerable green energy.” Details of the public exhibitions are detailed below: Earley Community Resource Centre - Tuesday19th October – 15:30 – 19:30 Arborfield Village Hall - Wednesday 20th October – 15:30 – 19:30 Shinfield Parish Hall - Friday 22nd October - 15:00 – 19:00 The results of the environmental studies will be available at the public exhibitions along with photomontages showing what the potential wind energy development would look like from various locations in the local area. Details of the application will also be available on the website: www.rushy-mead.com and at both the Earley Community Resource Centre and the Civic Offices in Wokingham.
