Wokingham Borough Council grant planning permission for temporary wind monitoring mast
Published: 18/09/2008
Councillors on the Wokingham Borough Council Planning Committee have voted unanimously to grant planning permission for Partnerships for Renewables’ planning application to construct a temporary wind monitoring mast, adjacent to the M4 between Junctions 10 and 11, at Rushy Mead,
The temporary wind monitoring mast will provide valuable on-site wind data to supplement information already gathered from the met office. By gaining a deeper understanding of the local wind regime Partnerships for Renewables will be able to select the optimum turbine for the site from the range available on the market and accurately predict the amount of energy likely to be generated by the development.
Tony Duffin, from Partnerships for Renewables, said: “We are committed to designing the best possible wind development for the site and this requires us to develop a really detailed understanding of the local environment. The council’s decision, to grant planning permission for the temporary wind monitoring mast, is very welcome and means that we can now move forward with all of the tools necessary to gain a thorough understanding of site conditions and ensure that any future planning application is appropriate for the location.
“It is now important that we finalise the details of the other environmental work required, including bird and ecological studies. This process will start when we publish a document outlining the methodology we plan to adopt for each subject area and gain feedback from bodies like Natural England and Wokingham Borough Council.
“We also intend to present this information to the local community at public exhibitions – dates for which we hope to announce shortly.”
