The University of Reading is ranked among the UK’s ten most research-intensive universities and is one of the top 200 universities in the World and, with a world-class reputation for teaching, research and enterprise, is home to several centres of excellence conducting world-class research across a broad range of disciplines.
Recognised internationally for the quality and diversity of its research, with a number of researchers receiving awards for their work, specialist interests within the University span climate change, wind, biomass, energy solutions and energy policy. Work has also been conducted on hydro power and solar energy. A major research area is within The Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering Group, based in the School of Construction Management and Engineering.
The University of Reading is consistently one of the most popular higher education choices in the UK and, in September 2007, opened the Carrington Building, the first construction on campus to use geothermal energy. A building integrated photovoltaic roof, which generates electricity directly from solar energy, is also a feature of the University’s Engineering building.
