Archaeology

Wokingham Borough Council has designated some of the land where the turbines may be located as having a high archaeological potential.  At the end of February our planning consultants Entec UK met with English Heritage and Berkshire County Councils Archaeology Officer, in order to discuss  how to ensure that any unidentified archaeological remains on the site are preserved and/or recorded. As a result we are currently undertaking a desk based assessment to document everything that is currently known about the site – to do this we look at records such as the National Monuments Record, Berkshire Records Office, Berkshire Historic Environment Record, aerial photography and local libraries. Once complete we will discuss with the Archaeology Officer whether onsite investigations such as geophysical surveys and trial trenching are required or if detailed monitoring during construction is more appropriate.  Generally it is only the construction of the turbines that may have an effect on archaeology.
