About the project

British Waterways owns land at the docks in Sharpness, Gloucestershire and is working with Partnerships for Renewables to develop a wind energy project at the site.

The work carried out so far suggests that at this stage the site has the potential to accommodate a single wind turbine, with a generating capacity of between 1.5 and 2.5 Megawatts (MW), and a tip height 122 metres.

More than 2 years of environmental and technical work have been undertaken at Sharpness Docks and as a result of this work, PfR is confident that the site is an appropriate location for a wind turbine.

A full Environmental Impact Assessment has been undertaken and the corresponding Environmental Statement document has now been submitted to Stroud District Council along with a Planning Application.

The Council will now conduct a consultation exercise with local stakeholders and national experts before the Planning Committee ultimately decide whether to approve or refuse the application.
