Met Mast Plans at Sharpness Docks
Published: 23/03/2011
Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) has announced plans to construct a temporary wind monitoring mast, on land owned by British Waterways to the north of Sharpness Docks.
The mast was approved by Stroud District Council’s planners in November last year and will be erected at the site in the coming weeks, providing valuable information to supplement data already gathered from the met office to help PfR chose the most appropriate turbine for the site and better estimate the amount renewable electricity that might be generated by a turbine at Sharpness Docks if the development goes ahead. Jerry Sturman, from Partnerships for Renewables, said: “We are pleased with the feedback we’ve had from local residents who have either contacted us or attended the public events that have been held in the Dockers Club at Sharpness.
“We are committed to designing the best possible wind development for the site based on the results of environmental and technical investigations. The council’s decision, to grant planning permission for the temporary wind monitoring mast was very welcome and means that as we continue our environmental and technical investigations, we can begin to gain a better understanding of site conditions and ensure that any future planning application is appropriate for the location.
“We want to continue to discuss our work with the local community and to receive feedback help shape our plans. We will be holding a number of community events in the local area to meet with local residents and community groups, beginning with a public exhibition in the Dockers Club at Sharpness on Monday the 9th of May, from 12 - 6pm.
“Members of the project team will be on hand at this event to talk about the study work undertaken so far, and to answer any questions that people have. Anyone unable to come along to this event can find out more about our work by calling the project team on 0800 731 7395.”
