Wind Turbine Investigations Continue at Sharpness Docks
Published: 04/05/2011
Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) has, this week taken a step further in investigating the potential for wind turbine near Sharpness Docks by submitting a Scoping Report to Stroud District Council. It is thought that a single 1.5 megawatt turbine at the docks could generate the equivalent amount of electricity used by more than 700 homes each year*. Following the recent installation of a wind monitoring mast at the site, the company has now submitted the Scoping Report to the Council’s planners as it seeks to progress investigations at the site, ahead of a potential planning application this autumn. Jerry Sturman, from Partnerships for Renewables, explained: “We have submitted the Scoping Report to Stroud District Council’s planning team this week. The document has been prepared to outline the proposed studies and the methodologies to be used for assessing the suitability of a potential single turbine development at Sharpness Docks.
“The report will be sent out by the council to all statutory consultees for comments, input and approval. The valuable feedback we receive from expert statutory consultee groups will help shape our ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment, technical investigations and design work.
“Our investigations are ongoing initial results have been encouraging. The results of further technical and environmental studies will help us decide whether the site is an appropriate location for a single turbine of the type being considered. If studies demonstrate that the site is not appropriate then we will stop work at the site.
“As well as feedback from statutory consultees, we hope to encourage local residents to give us their feedback at a series of forthcoming events, beginning next Monday."
A public exhibition will take place next week at Sharpness Dockers Club between 12pm and 6pm on Monday the 9th of May. The Partnerships for Renewables project team will be available to share the results of study work undertaken so far and answer any questions people have. Photo montages will be available to provide a visual representation of what a wind turbine at the docks might look like, and a complimentary lunch will be available.
Anyone unable to come along to this event can find out more about our work on the project website at www.pfr.co.uk/sharpness, or call the project team on 0800 731 7395.
